I was waiting in the car while a friend dropped something off and noticed a tiny dog barely able to sit up, shaking in the sun. Her eyes part way closed so helpless and forlorn. I couldnt imagine an animal in a state like this and had to get out of the car and pick her up and hold her tight. She was all skin and bones, her eyes all cloudy. My friend came out, and I told him I was taking her with us. The vet told me she was much younger than she looked, but years of being miss-treated caused her to be almost blind. He told me to start feeding her slowly, and she would regain her strength. After the vet, I stopped at the store to get dog food. Thinking she was too weak to jump out; I left the top down on my convertible. An announcement came over the loud speaker saying there was a tiny white dog at the front desk. I rushed to get her, thinking that everyone must have thought I was a horrible dog owner, but so happy she was okay.

I named her Muffin, the name coming to me in a dream. I cried each time I would go to pet her and she cowered, expecting to be hit. She didnt wag her tail, but it was a happy day when one day I saw her little tail wagging just a bit hoping I was erasing some of the terror she had been though.

She followed me everywhere, - sticking close to my ankles, because of her poor eyesight, but one afternoon, she lost track of my ankles, and found another set of ankles, and followed them home. I was thrilled when the neighbor came knocking at the door with her in her arm. She gained some weight, grew back some hair but still remained almost blind.

I found out later that this little dog had not been a stray, but had lived in the neighborhood we were visiting. I was so very glad that I had taken little Muffin, as her life was better for it no animal should ever be made to go through the mistreatment this precious dog must of gone through. Muffin and I were very thankful to have each other.
