On colorizing the ribbons, one way I do it is to duplicate the ribbon layer, then fill that ribbon with your paper or color. (how to fill depends on your program) Then change the blend mode on that filled layer so that the texture of the first layer shows thru. Once you like what you see, you can merge the two layers.

Or you can try using the colorize function within your program. There are many ways..if you'd like to chat about it, pm me.
