After I selected and cropped my photo, I used Silver Effex Pro 2 from the Nik Collection to convert my photo to black and white using a neutral filter. I tried all three of the techniques described in the challenge. The first technique left my photo too dark even after using the layer mask. Using the Levels Adjustment Layer gave me some nice contrast but not as much as with using the Curves Adjustment Layer. I felt that I had a much finer amount of control with that.
