Notes in Photoshop Elements 14

My daughter and her band play in a lot of grungy venues but also some upscale onesin fact, sometimes she even finds herself shown on a great big Jumbotron. It's the Jumbotron Factor that inspired this layout. Because the photo had lots of neon and was at low resolution, I used these deficits as an opportunity to explore the guided edits tab in Elements 14, a place where I usually don't go. It turns out to be a lot of fun, and it's fast, too. On this photo, I used a zoom burst effect then added a toy camera filter and a dotted grunge texture. I had extracted my daughter from the photo previously so I put her back in, used a couple of Mod Grunge Fotoblendz to shape the edges, then moved the entire assembly onto my canvas.

I had previously made a room on the canvas by rotating Solid Paper #1 from the Artplay Palette and overlaying onto it several of the Artsy Transfers for texture and grunge. I oriented my photo montage in the room and then added most of the layers of all the Artsy Transfers (resized, recolored, and on different blend modes) to paint in more texture both below and on top of the imagery. (I like to use the stains in the Artsy Transfers to impart light to areas that have darkened up under all the layering.) I then added the title, place, and date, the Urban Stitchez and Banner, and then further grunged up the layout by duplicating Solid Paper #1 and pulling it to the top of the layer stack. I set it to multiply, reducing opacity, and layer-masked out the areas that had become too murky.
Love how exploration yields wonderful surprises! Great "jumbotron" vibe!
