Remarkable Woman - Annalift 11.9.12

I was completely inspired by the title and idea of a remarkable woman from the past in this week's AnnaLift https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=271730&title=a-remarkable-lady&cat=1351 . I chose my grandmother - and remade a page I had done for my dad several years ago - where he had described his mom. That's him with her in the background of the photo.

(You probably don't want to read all this - but I have included the journaling, just in case (these are words from my dad)
1. Mom was very dependable. She met the familys needs and many of the needs of the neighborhood. 2. When I was getting ready to go to college, she was the one who promoted it and yet she is the person who didnt want me to leave home. She wanted something better for me. 3. She was giving. When we had a garden, she would share items from the garden with our neighbors. 4. She was straightforward. Mom was one of those individuals who had an opinion on most anything that she understood and she usually let you know what that was right away. 5. Mom liked music. She would tell you how she had sung and won a $20 gold piece. She could play a 5-string banjo and had to have a piano whether anyone could play it or not. She could play a little on it, but didnt have the opportunity to take lessons. 6. She was such a faithful person writing letters. During the war, she wrote letters to all the kids that were in the service. When I went to college, she wrote me every week. She continued writing until she passed away. 7. She loved to talk on the telephone. Anybody. Everybody! 8. She loved to talk. 9. She loved people. She used to tell stories about when she was at home - people would come in wagons just to visit, and they would end up staying a week. 9. She loved having company (more people to talk to!). 10. She was a hard worker. She would sweep the streets not just the sidewalks! 11. She and Dad loved each other, though they didnt express it personally every day but they had a love and admiration for each other that bonded them. 12. She used to tell the story that she saw Frank Queen at the church and told her friend, Mamie, that she had just seen the man she was going to marry. I think she was looking for womens rights long before it ever happened. 13. She was an excellent cook. 14. She was a pretty good disciplinarian, I think. She would put you in your place without too many switches, but when the switching was required, she didnt hold out any. She would say that we werent acting as we should. 15. She loved to walk. She would walk all over Canton, dressed up in high heels. 16. She loved to travel if she could get home by evening. 17. She loved to shop. She didnt buy much. Dad used to say she turned over everything in the store. 18. She was a very healthy person. She outlived four doctors, and shed tell them that, too. 19. She loved chocolate and anything sweet. Her father died of diabetes, but she was spared that.

TFL!
