Process Notes - "Grateful for Teachers" butterfly

This shows how I extracted the origami butterflies for my LO "Grateful for Teachers" https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=381038&title=grateful-for-teachers28anna-color-challenge-11-2f17-29 . I did something like this before https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=317978&title=easy-peasy-extraction and, LOL, good thing I didn't check my old process notes because I came up with a slightly different way to do the same thing - which was just as easy if not easier. This technique should work any time you want to "extract" a dark object and put it on a light digi-scrapping BG. When you photograph your object, try to use the whitest BG you can (I used a Kodak card) and be careful not to underexpose when you shoot. That way, when you adjust the levels slider (step 3), your object will be less affected by the levels slider. I like this technique because it preserves real shadows. Photoshop shadows are OK, but they're not quite the same. And along those lines, rotate your object and take multiple pictures so that the shadows fall in different locations. If you simply duplicate your object and rotate it, the lighting will appear to be coming from different directions, which may be distracting.
