I rotated the template to better suit my photos, and then tweaked the placement of the template layers by moving everything closer to the center of the page. I added the big photo first, clipping it to the large paint area in the center of the template; I didn't like the look so positioned the fotoblendz overlay (rotated) and clipped my photo to that instead.
I clipped a single photo of the Painted Ladies houses into the two frames at the top of the template, a super-easy technique that is both great for highlighting terrific photos and excellent for disguising ones that are not so good--I'll be demonstrating this simple technique in an upcoming tutorial.
Because I had rotated the template I had to reposition the title and text, which is what I did next. I still wasn't sure what I was going to put into the bottom frame that came with the template, and eventually I wound up deleting it. In its place I dropped in a row of stitched houses, which I colored to make my own Painted Ladies.
To finish up, I added a background paper, recolored a few paint layers/stains, positioned art stroke frames on top of the layer stack to carry out the paint theme, and added the checked ribbon.
