In November 1956 Dad was recommended for promotion to Technical Sargent. If he had been promoted it would have been outside of the requirements to be promoted.
At the time it was the practice in the Air Force to allocate annual promotions to the major air commands.

Those eligible for promotion were airmen who met the time-in-grade, time-in-service prerequisites, and who successfully passed the USAF Supervisors Examination.

Dad had not completed the regulatory time in service of 11 years. Nor had he completed the Management Course for Air Force Supervisors. He had met the requirement of time in grade of 14 months.

Within SAC NCOs with aircrew experience tended to advance faster than those without. This was probably the reason why Dad applied for Air Mission Duty in January 1957.
