For Mother's Day, the whole family went to Napa to celebrate. In hindsight it's kind of strange that we went to wine country to eat seafood, but it's what we did! First we went to the Hog Island Oyster Co. to try out some of their oysters, and then we went to Morimoto (the Iron Chef!) Napa. They had a fairly standard menu, but everything that came to our table was prepared almost artistically. And the one non-standard thing we did order, the Toro Tartare, was an amazing experience. Basically it's a thin plate of fish paste served with six separate sauces (nori paste, wasabi, surgeon caviar, sour cream, soy sauce, and something else). You pick up a bit of the paste, dip it in whatever you feel like, and then eat it. A mountain peach was provided to "cleanse the palate"; it tasted a lot like a raspberry.
For dessert, we ordered a tofu cheese cake just to see what it would look like. It ended up being named that because it was made with soy milk, I think. It tasted excellent as well.
Overall, the entire experience was very memorable
