Letter:

Here it is Saturday & no furniture yet. Jack checked out an overstuffed chair so we have one comfortable chair to sit in. Were kicking ourselves all over for not sending our TV set. Jack wants to buy one now. And I suppose we will. Were seriously thinking of buying a rug. We got a Sears catalogue & they have a 9x12 rug for $17.97 plus freight which would be $5.00 or so. The rug is on sale. I think it would serve the purpose until we moved on base & then we could put it in the bedroom. You cant imagine how hard it is to keep these rubber tile floors clean. Again were on a dirt road which is worse.

Our apartment overlooks Anchorage (the back side) but the mountains around the base & city are just beautiful. They are still capped with snow & so bright. It stays light quite late about 9:30 & starts to get light again at 2:00. One night Ann woke up at 2:00 so I know. She has another cold since were here but the baby is fine as are Jack & I. Hope to see Anchorage soon.

Guess I better get Ann & I something to eat for supper. Ann started eating real good the last day on the boat & has been eating like a little pig ever since. Guess its the climate.

Known as the Chateau Inn, we stayed here for two days until the 14th of May when we moved to Anchorage to an apartment.

View of Anchorage from the apartment. We lived on the economy
from 14 May 1958 until 27 June 1958. Dad received his orders for family quarters on base effective on 26 June. This photograph was taken on our last day in the apartmen at 1605 Hollwood Drive, Apartment 2343.

This slide was labeled as Anchorage 27 June 1958. Because Dad kept all his orders and Moms practice of taking pictures of places we lived just before moving I deduced that this was the view from the apartment.
