Looking Deeper

For the September Creative Challenge at Oscraps, It's All in the Details. Loved this challenge, looking deeper at the stuff in the photos. I won't be so worried about what all is showing in some of my photos from now on.

Journaling: This is one of those photos that normally I wouldnt use because I have cut off heads and more of the table than anything else, but on second glance it tells so much. You can see the interaction of everyone as we gather around the table. What you dont know is this is something we do every Christmas Eve. In years past my Mom would cook everything and we had more than just family there. Now, we use pre-made frozen appetizers and we all gather together and cook them up. We all have our favorites, potatoe skins, quesadillas, meatballs, and shrimp. There is always cheese and crackers to eat while we heat everything else. There is lots of talking and laughter. My Mom and sister will always be wearing some sort of holiday sweater, and me and my nieces will start out with some sort of head band with a holiday motif and Tim has his Christmas Packer hat. Sometimes extended family and friends will join us for a little bit, but more than likely it is just us. What you cant tell from this photo is how happy we all were to have both Niki and Rocky there that year because the year before they were both in Iraq. There is the usual holiday napkins in the holder and the salt and pepper shakers, with the fake salt as everyone likes to call it, which is low sodium. There are the Christmas placemats that are there every year along with the little plates that look like clam shells that have a little area for you to put the sauce for the shrimp or mozzarella sticks. We use the glasses that my Mom collected through the years from Arbeys that were free with a soda purchase. There is always plenty of cookies that we have spent the weeks prior making, and the girls always take a few with them to leave out for Santa that night. It is nothing fancy, but the time spent together is something I always treasure.
