Life With Children

I had an unusual reminder of what is really important in life.

Journaling reads:
Company is coming in a few days. I look around the house, and let out an overwhelmed sigh.
Why is it that our house looks like one giant art project that never gets completed? Strewn
about the house are paper towel tubes, aluminum foil cut into unusual shapes, glitter pens,
large decorated cardboard boxes, and items of dress up clothes ~ among other similar treasures.
Three kids. Big imaginations. Not-so-clean house.

Feeling frustrated, and a bit like a failure as a wife and a mom, I take a big breath and decide to tackle at least one area of cleaning before lunch. Old rag in hand, I walk toward the wooden ledge that separates the dining room from the living room. As I get closer and the angle of my view changes - the sunlight underscores the thick layer of dust that I have let accumulate. About to make the first wipe, the warm outside light highlights something else -- handprints. Childrens handprints. I now suspect the sunlight wasnt there to show me the dust -- rather it was there to remind me what is really important. Children. Children make your life important.
