Leatherneck - Sayonara

Leatherneck - Sayonara

I finally finished scanning my Dad's slides, which was kind of disappointing. Approximately half of them were someone else's (possibly a Marine buddy who kept in touch for years, sending him many slides).

But I did find a few gems (and these just happened to be perfect for the beautiful new Collection Sayonara): the large photo of him in his brand-new USMC uniform in San Diego, before shipping out to Korea, and quite a few from Korea, that had an awful reddish-brown tint, so I used Lightroom presets to desaturate and color tone the two small photos. At least I think that's him standing by the sign, that too-short tie seemed a dead giveaway. :)

I started with the Sayonara Artsy Layered Template, clipping the photo to one of the white transfer layers and added the fotoblendz layer from MultiLayered FotoBlendz 5-4 on the lower half of the duplicated/clipped photo to get more coverage. I didn't adjust hues of any other template layers, as they matched so well to my photos. I placed Solid Paper 5 below the template layers. I clipped the small photos to two masks and Solid Paper 5 to 1B mask. Also clipped 3 copies of Solid Paper 4 to each frame to tone down the white. Embellished with WordArt Cluster, elements, Button Threadz, Title and journaling.

What a fantastic layout! The photos work beautifully with the collection (great idea to edit them in LR).
This is beautiful! I love your journaling on this! Wasn't he a cutie as a young man? And he looked so proud standing there in his uniform. I love these kinds of layouts and I love how the paint splatters age the feel of the page!
This couldn't be more perfect. Love the way the texture fits with the main photo and the wonderful journaling. Standing O! for this page.
What a great page, the dark background with the transfers look great. I like the extraction of your dad and the beautiful photos, you made a super journaling, so well done!

Congrats on the well deserved Standing O!!
Great documentation of your father's service. Congrats on the Standing O!
I agree with all these comments. As a genealogist I treasure LOs that show the character and humanity of people as well as the history. It will help future generations know their forebears as people not just statistics. Although out of the Army for many years, once a soldier always a soldier, and I love to see people take pride in their own military history. Just something about a man in uniform...

Congratulations on that well-deserved Standing O!
