It was endlessly hazy and smoky, but there were a couple of glorious blue-sky days just before the fire blew up. Joe invited you for a beer, and I decided to go on a joyride. I drove up the canyon to the first public river access. It was like I was back in my 20s, single, and on my motorcycle.
