his life and mine

i can't seem to get over the fact that the Pittsburgh of my youth is gone forever. the snippet of poetry on the page is from the poem "Refusing Heaven" by Jack Gilbert, about the 'Burgh.

He will not abandon his life.
Not his childhood,
not the ninety-two bridges
across the two rivers of his youth.
Nor the mills
along the banks where he became a young man
as he worked.
The mills are eaten away,
and eaten
again by the sun and its rusting.
He needs them
even though they are gone,
to measure against.

Stunning! As a native Clevelander, I have about the same sense of change and loss and so appreciate what you capture here.

I've already begged you for 1% of your talent.
I've changed my mind: let i be just 0,5 percent, that will be enough!

Beautiful and emotional tribute to your childhood town. Love the tall sky minimizing the town!

Amazingly I've never been to Pittsburgh but I know the poignancy of a city's loss. I remember the glow round Baltimore's Beth Steel, and men I know who worked there. Some progress is painful and you've beautifully illustrated that. As always!
