The Battle Won - by Captain K L Lee
This month we mourn the deaths of 27 of our shipmates who died as a result of a decrustive fire on January 14th. Their passing has left a void in our squadrons and divisions, and in the lives of us all.
We will not forget them or their sacrifice.
Desipe the tragic loss of these men, we can be thankful that thousands of others live.
We owe these lives to the cool-headed action which so many of this crew exhibited during that critical time.
The endless hours and days of training in damage control and fire fighting paid off in containing the blaze and preventing its spread to other more volatile and critical areas of the ship.
I want to personally commend every man on the Enterprise for his part in helping win this decisive battle. And it was a battle, a battle for survival on the sea.
Fire is the deadliest enemy a seaman ever has to face. You of the Enterprise faced it, and won.
Well done.
