Duomo di Siracusa

Journaling tells the story of this amazing duomo in Siracusa, Sicily, that has been in use as a house of religious worship for over 2500 years. It was originally a Greek temple built in 480 BC, converted to a Byzantine church, then an Arab mosque, then a Norman fortress and church, then finally restored in Sicilian Baroque after an earthquake in the late 1600s.

Such diverse functions and everyone loved and was proud to own this building.

An amazing history over 2500 years! Wonderful photos...I appreciate the inclusion of detail photos when documenting architecture!

I always get the shivers when I follow along with a building's history. Beautiful documentation. Beautiful photos, too.
