Cricket

Journaling reads: dumped on my moms dirt road with her two sisters when she was about 6 months old. We decided to take her in because she was the omega dog of the three, and we figured she needed us most, so we chose to have her fly with us from Alabama to California. Such a great little dog with both some normal and some quirky traits:

Although we thought she would be cuddly, she is not, but tolerates it without complaint. Her teeth are crooked, and she has an under bite. Her tongue is black and pink. She will actually get off the couch when we sit beside her. So trusting, we can pry anything out of her little jaws without fear of her every snapping;. When she takes a bone from us, she does so very gently, like she is afraid she might hurt us. If in play, we say ouch, she immediately stops, for fear she hurt us. She is very much like a cat in that she comes when she wants to, not when we call her. She was probably mistreated, and is very distrustful of men, yet she loves Ron, even when played with roughly. When running in the back yard, she is not happy unless she has a toy in her mouth, but when she does, we find she doesnt run as hard, and if she has no toy she stops to look for one every so often, grabs it and starts running again. She will play catch, but cannot be bothered to have to move at all to catch the toy, it has to land right in her mouth. She then whips her mouth up, to throw it back to us. When she wants something, she will poke us with her nose, then she will take us (like Lassie) to what she wants, whether it be a bone, or for us to let her out. She is happiest with a squeaking toy. With some of the toys that squeak, she will vibrate her teeth such that it sounds like she is laughing, and of course that gets us to laugh as well. She loves to be chased in the house, but when we chase her, she just takes us around the coffee table until she gets tired, changing directions, and often jumping on the couch to escape capture. When on the couch, she will join us by just placing the front of her body on the couch, her back paws remaining on the floor. Every time she jumps on the couch, she must peer over the backside of the couch to make certain none of her toys are behind it. She is afraid of farts, and will immediately leave the room when she hears one. She sleeps in a variety of places, but mostly in the hall where she can keep an eye of everything going on. When a doorbell rings on the TV, she immediately runs barking toward the front door. We make a big deal about her scaring off burglars, by opening up the door, letting her look outside, and thanking her for saving us. She is extremely patient, and will often be in the same spot when we return 10 minutes later, and when stalking bunnies, she can inch her way toward the bunny for as long as 20 minutes, moving ever so slowly. We have learned that she is quite a dog, and we cant imagine our lives without her.
