Journaling:
The oldest tradition in our family is the almond game. Every Christmas Eve, the dessert has a blanched almond hidden in it. Everyone serves his own dish. The one who gets it has to pretend to not have it so that people will keep eating until the dessert is gone. Finally, when the big reveal occurs, the winner gets a prize. This started out as a Danish tradition with either rice pudding or a dessert made with applesauce and crumbs. One year I decided that the Game Police would not arrest us if we had a dessert that everyone actually liked, so it has varied since then. Sometimes it is English trifle, sometimes cheesecake or tiramisu.
