Journaling:
After a break for lunch we headed out for another hike, this one to the Silica Rapids, passing the Golden Rapids on the way. Color was subtle, but all the more interesting. I loved the rich red mossy-looking growths and the yellow-green
lichens. Down low would be tiny purple and yellow flowers. This track had boardwalks over some of the wettest areas and
wonderful signage (did they just put these in, they looked so new!) telling of the life on these wet alpine bogs on the western slopes of Mt Ruapehu. We hiked a total of 11 miles. It was a good day.
Eleven miles! There is so much to see, so many vistas, on that long a hike. Your interpretive signs are a fun addition to your page.
