Linderhof is a tiny castle that Mad King Ludwig built just for himself. A great admirer of the sun king, he tried to make his own Versailles in Bavaria, and while on a small scale, I think he nearly succeeded.

Journaling:
One of the top three highlights of the entire trip for me, seeing Linderhof Castle, especially the inside, actually made me shed tears of beauty. Of course you would have to like gold and rococo, and on this trip, I learned that I do. Completed in 1886, this castle is new by the medieval standards by which we were judging our previous stops on the trip. The grounds, the golden statues, the fountains, the flowers, were all spectacular, and it made for a good, if somewhat hot, workout, to see them all.
