Just 20 mins from the Gold Coast beaches is a mountain hinterland covered in rainforest. The basalt columns, cliffs and waterfalls are a lasting legacy of volcanic eruption milllions of years ago.
The mountain became Queenslands first national park back in 1908. It protects piccabeen palm groves, wet eucalypt forest, a bracken fern understorey and woodland. A wildlife habitat.
The name Tamborine originates from the local Yugambeh language and means wild limes. They were a thirst quencher.
