Kaufhaus of the Westens or KaDeWe (literally in French: " western Department store "

is the vastest business(trade) of this type(chap) in Europe. He(it) is situated near Tiergarten and near Kurfrstendamm in the district of Schneberg in Berlin. He(it) presents 60 000 square meters to the ground and extends over seven floors.
The KaDeWe was based(established) in 1905 by Adolf Jandorf. His(her,its) construction, managed by the architect Emil Schaudt, ended in April, 1907 and was immediately followed by the opening of the store to the public.
In November, 1943, the fall of an American bomber brought(shot) down by Flak ( German AA(ANTI-AIRCRAFT DEFENSE)) destroyed the store. He(it) reopened in 1950 after a partial reconstruction which will be completed only in 1956.
6th and 7th floors were added at the beginning of 1990s and completely consist of food beams(shelves)The store was during the cold war and the partition(score) of the city, the symbol of the capitalist world and that of the resistance of West Berlin in front of communist regime of GDR.
Since September 2nd, 2010, it is the property of the group Berggruen Holdings, following the bankruptcy of the former(old) owner, group Arcandor (formerly KarstadtQuelle AG) who held(detained) him(it) since 1994.
Between 2004 and 2007, most of the floors were renovated for the hundredth birthday(anniversary) of the store.
