This mine was one of the great silver and gold producers within the red mountain mining district. Unlike most mines in the San Juans, this was a vertical shaft mine with a hoist house that housed the equipment used to lower the miners and raise ore.
Journaling:
We saved the trip to Yankee Girl Mine for our last day and were there in time for sunrise. Just as the sun came up it socked in and a heavy rain started. Remember walking on creaky boards, and standing on the grating of the hoist and looking down into the mine shaft.
