Shasta Dam (about 20 minutes from my home) is very important to the State of California, providing water and energy to the rest of the state... Last year there was a lot of excitement over the fact that due to the drought the lake levels had dropped to the point that the Headtower used during construction was exposed... During the tour of the Dam with Gessika I finally got an understanding of what the Headtower was all about... it transported buckets of freshly mixed concrete down to the crews below waiting to fill the forms with it ... thus it was intrinsic to the construction process... I took these photos of the old images on display showing it from various angles and the dam under construction and one aerial view of the whole thing.... The conveyor belt transported the rock from the river bed in Redding to the Dam 9.6 miles away... hard to comprehend a conveyor belt that wide and long!!!
