Like most Old World recipes, no one knows the exact recipe for my Grandmas stuffing. Since she died two decades ago, my mom has spent countless hours and holidays trying to recreate it. Some years, my mom thinks she has it pretty close, others, not much at all. Recently, I wanted to my hand at this so I called my mom to ask her how it is done. It was not easy getting the recipe down in writing. and it wont be easy until there is a Touchable-Tasteable recipe card. Everything was done by how it looks, tastes, smells, feels. Having never been around my Grandma as she was cooking this, I struggled trying to make my moms descriptions translate into a recipe.. The tray of stuffing I made *tasted* like my Grandmas but it did not look, or feel like hers at all. Give me another couple of decades, and maybe I will figure it out before Caitlyn asks me to pass the recipe down to her.
This made me smile ....we have lots of recipes just like this at my house too .... and nothing I make tastes like Mamaws....good luck figuring it out....you got the hard part ....the taste.... I bet the look has to do with how she did the bread....maybe someone who is a better cook than I will come up with an answer or a suggestion or two.....fyi Mamaw writes new recipes down now and adds the year when she made it...and how she modified it....

Wonderful story about recipes, I find fascinating that the same gets repeated in so many places, what wonderful way to describe the through family recipe of what we do not know. BTW thank you for my standing O" Ann

Oh Chris, this is SUCH a wonderful page - the perfect kind of page in my book - a family story, preserved for posterity. What a wonderful piece of your family history this is and I am TOTALLY smelling stuffing at the moment!

What wonderful journaling! I absolutely loved reading and the antique feel of the page is perfect for the journaling.
