Rescue Me!

Journaling reads: Ever since losing Cricket to cancer, I have been obsessed with petfinder.com. One local organization on petfinder is The Barking Lot Rescue. It saves dogs through Southern California from being euthanized at various facilities. It evaluates, and works with the many traumatized dogs that are often found fending for themselves in harsh conditions throughout Southern California. Although not ready to get another dog, we learned that this organization will bring their dogs out to De Anza Cove for Saturday morning walks with volunteers. Rachel and I decided it might be a good first step in finding our new dog, plus it gives the dogs more contact with new people and places, and helps them with leash training as well. They name the groups of dogs they get using similar names, like names of breads, or names of area towns or communities. This dog had a shelter name of Slovakia, one of 30 or so that came from San Bernadino County and all named after foreign countries. She was sweet and well behaved, but thin and frail and we found out she was being picked on my other kennel dogs. We were pleased that by the end of our walk, she began opening up, and playing with us. Although every dog we see we want, we know that we must find the right mix of dog for us so we can provide the best life for a stray that had a rough start in life, and we are confident that just as we knew with Cricket, we will know when we have found the right dog.

The Process: I began with a solid Kardstock and began adding transfers to use as a base to blend the photo unto. I added the photo, masked it out, and then painted back in the portions I wanted. This bottom layer I placed it on blend mode Color Burn, I duplicated the photo and placed this top photo on Hard Light, and played around with masking out more of some portions and less of others, until satisfied. The figures in the photos were still blended way too much so I duplicated again, and placed this photo on Multiply, painting all out but the dog and my dd. I duplicated once more, and placed this top photo on Normal, and brought down the opacity. It still allowed for some transparency, but gave the figures a more natural look. I added additional tranfers, and began layering the elements. I added the journaling and the edge overlay and called it finished!!!

What a sweet page to document your important journey. These things don't happen all at once but there's a process.

joannie, this is amazing in so many ways. the design, the photo, the journaling (story) and the TITLE. it's perfection.

Fantastic page Joan! What a great blending, I love the colors, wordart and journaling! I am in awe of your journaling, great that you now do so much with dogs, a very good therapy!
