The Greek diaspora have kept strong cultural ties to their homeland and it's easy to understand their passion. As you can see Athens looks quite beautiful from the water. If you visit the tavernas and coffee shops where only Greeks go the food will be more authentic and you will soak up some local colour. The islands of course are as beautiful as you expect. Hardly any cars, just donkeys and carts. If youre staying near a fishing village, it's great to walk down early in the morning to where the boats are landing their catch.
