Keeping Watch

These are photo of Cricket taken on her chair on our back patio. When we first took her home, she took to the patio chairs, spending time on them and keeping watch over the yard. The bottom photo is her resting her chin on the arm of the chair (so totally her). Although most of the time we had her, she slept in the house at night, the last 8 months of her life I let her sleep outside, because I believe the tyroid meds she was on made her hot all the time. She typically slept on the patio chair as well. I spent much of my evenings, the last week, sitting beside her, listening to the night sounds, and can understand why she liked sleeping outside, as it was always apparent to us that she took her job of guarding us very seriously. I would like to think that she will always be keeping watch over the family she loved - now our angel.

The Process: I began with an Artsy Paper from AP Lifes Little. I added a number of transfers, using some as fotomasks. I used the Blend Mode Hard Light for the photos, blending out portions of the photos. The bottom photo was attached to an ArtsyKard from Viaggio, applying a shadow and then adding the distressed frame to the edge. I added a variety of transfers and brushes, playing around with their colors and blend modes until satisfied. I added a number of textures to the background as well, in the little bits of chevrons, dots, and grid patterns, blending them in to different portions of the paper. I finished up with the torn/curled edge, the angel charm, and metal heart, along with the scripttease brushwork along the edges of the photos, along with Crickets name, and dates of her life. I also used a gradient filter on the left side of the paper to add a bit more blue, and then used the filter darken to allow the pattern and texture to show through. When completed, and flattened, I brought it into RadLab, and played around with the filters.

Wow what a gorgeous layout of your beloved dog! I am sorry for your loss but you did create a stunning memory of Cricket!

Beautiful page, and I love the story behind it. I'm pretty sure she will be watching over you all.

Absolutely gorgeous photos and combination...Love all of this page...going to my favorite folder....!

Whoa! This is just stunning! What a beautiful dog she was and your page is a heartfelt tribute to Cricket. Your journaling almost made me cry. We lost our grajnd-dog Hagrid, a St. Bernard, whom we adored. My heart goes out to you and the page goes into my favorites.
