I have been thinking all week about a trip my mom and step-dad took to visit a younger brother of hers. She arrived to find that my Uncles health having deteriorated a great deal, and it is weighing heavy on all of us because we know that my Uncle has the ability to make changes in his life, but chooses not to, almost like he is giving up. I cant help but think that part of this has to do with a persons outlook and fight in life. I look at my mom, and see a woman so strong, and for her age, in such a better state than my Uncle, even though she is much older than he, and having seen so many other elderly people decide at some point to just sit down and stop living makes me so very sad so although this page did not start out with this journaling below, I couldnt think of too much this week except my moms visit to see her brother, so this page morphed into a reflection of that.
Journaling reads: I am struggling today with a persons journey through life. I have had a tough year, but still all in all I am so thankful to be alive, and value those little things that most people take for granted. I wonder, however, will I be like so many others that as they age, they get to the point there they just exist, rather than live. I see it all too often, and hope that as I age, I go to the end of my day, fighting for each and every day. Time will tell, but I cant help but think that my mom brought us up to fight for the good, and life, after all is pretty damn good!
