When I decided I wanted to knit a sweater for my, then, fiance, Dave, I looked at the page of instructions, and nearly gave up before starting. It was too daunting. But then I glanced at the instructions for the first row, and realized I could do that row. Then I looked at the instructions for the second row, and saw that I could do that one too. So I decided to just try getting as far as I could, doing one row at a time instead of thinking about that huge page of instructions. Before I knew it, I had knitted an entire sweater!
Ever since then, when a project has seemed impossible to me, I think about that sweater, and make up my mind to just do the next thing that needs to be done.
Sometimes a task requires help. I was always afraid to tackle knitting socks, and decided it was finally time. So I started attending a knitting group, and the leader talked me through most of the project. Then, of all people, my daughter, who is a better knitter than I will ever be, helped me finish them!
