A Wing and a Prayer

Hello there, O scrappy ones! Hope you've all had a great summer. DH and I just returned from a great week-long vacation to Chicago. I know, I know--Chicago in August? Before we left people would ask us that all the time, and that question was almost always followed by this one: "Are you crazy?!? The heat! The humidity!" Gotta tell ya' we really lucked out with the weather. The triple digit temps from earlier this summer had given way to highs in the mid-80's, and even the humidity was lower than we expected, so it was all quite bearable. Chicago is wonderful! We had a total blast exploring that fab city. One of our adventures was a day spent at the Museum of Science and Industry, a bit of a bus man's holiday for the two of us. :) So many fascinating exhibits, most of them interactive. One of the exhibits was a large tv screen, with digital butterflies fluttering about. If you stand perfectly still in front of the screen, the butterflies land on you! How cool is that? That exhibit is such an amazing example of engineering and computer science ingenuity. However, try taking a picture of yourself while holding perfectly still--um, contradiction in terms?! I managed to get something, though; that's my silhouette in the photo on the page. Even as I was taking this photo I wondered how on earth I was going to scrap it, and then I saw this week's AnnaLift. Thanks Annette and Donna, for the wonderful inspiration!

ETA: I'm getting some lovely comments on the silhouette I used on this page, but I should 'fess up that I didn't do that; i.e, I didn't turn a photo of me into a silhouette. It was part of the original photo. When you stand in front of this tv screen, your shadow is projected onto the screen and the butterflies land on your shadow. I had my camera at my waist and was trying to get a shot without disturbing the winged wonders that had landed on my shadow...
