The Olympic torch has been cheered and clapped the length and breadth of the UK, everyone has embraced it's journey! I'm so glad that I managed to cheer this young lady on!
"I had already watched the Olympic Torch on it's journey through Giffnock which was a bit of a let down as it was too crowded to appreciate the
runners. Colin and I were meeting up in the evening to go to the Trades House Exhibition and were pleasantly surprised to see the centre of Glasgow
packed to welcome the torch to the City Centre and George Square. This time I knew what to expect so we positioned ourselves in a good spot.
The torchbearer waiting for the hand over was a girl I recognised as an ex student from College, Julie was born with Celebral palsy which has left
her with mobility impairment and is also profoundly deaf. Despite this and doctors telling her parents that she would spend her life in a wheelchair Julie
has gone on to lead an active life and is a role model for many people taking on incredible challenges.
I clapped and cheered this incredible young lady as she took the torch, she had such a huge grin on her face carrying the flame, one of the 8000
inspirational torchbearers for the London Olympics!"
