AnnaLift - Peace & Comfort

Journaling reads: It is so very hard to see Rachels Grandma in this state. Not long after Rachel learned to walk, Edith suffered a stroke and needed 24 hour care. She spent hours and hours with the therapist to help her speak and walk, but after months, still little progress, so they gave up on her. I knew nothing about strokes, and the doctors and nurses told me nothing. I learned for myself just how horrible it was to be the victim of a stroke. I learned that she would most likely not get any better than she currently was - so she was destined to be trapped inside her body dependent on care by others. So terrifying a thought. Edith had always been the caregiver of a husband with diabetes, and now she was trapped inside a body that would not let her do the things she wanted. I could see it in her eyes that she was still there but everyone treated her like she didnt exist, or didnt count, but I knew that inside she was screaming at us to be heard. She got to a point where she could communicate a bit - with a word here and there, but still I saw the frustration as she lashed out at all around her to be heard and counted. I wished she had more time with her grand-daughter before the stroke, but Rachel would never know her as the vibrant woman she once was. I cry inside when I see this photo of a woman struggling so. I was happy that she had been able to communicate enough to have someone get Rachel a Baby Bebop backpack for Christmas, and she was thrilled to see Rachels face when Rachel opened her gift. I could see in Ediths eyes both the love and caring, but also the frustration of not being able to be the person she wanted to be. I hoped that Rachels kiss would give her some peace and comfort.
