it's never easy to say goodbye

In case anyone is wondering why all the wordy pages in my gallery ... I have decided to write 52 stories by the end of next year. The stories don't have to relate to any particular thing, and don't have to be done in any particular order or in any particular week. They just have to be written.

Journaling: Mike had a big cat walk, a lean build and a long tail. He was always trying to find his way outdoors. When he did escape, he usually didn't wander past the first comfortable, sunny spot. Mike was also the most loving cat I have ever had the pleasure of sharing space with. In June, Mike broke his leg. We had it fixed but, because of his advanced age and the method used to bind the bones, his leg didn't heal right. We took him to the veterinary hospital at UC Davis to see if the vets there could help and we learned that Mike had bladder cancer. The treatments would have been very painful and they would not have prolonged his life more than six months. So, we decided to bring Mike home and love him for as long as he was with us. Ben was heartbroken at the news. Every day he loved Mike, cleaned his paws, and let him sleep on his bed. And every day he asked me the same two questions, Do you think Mike knows how much we love him? and Do you think Mikes had a good life? Even though I always answered yes to both, the questions would find their way to me again the next day. Two days before Mike died, Ben asked me to take some pictures of the two of them. I can see the grief and the love in Bens face. It's never easy to say goodbye, but if I had to choose someone to be my side at the end, it would be Ben. He filled Mikes last few months with a gentle touch, compassion, and much love. Goodbye, Mike. We miss you.

Thanks for looking :)
Boy oh boy - are the water-works flowing now. It is so hard to lose a pet, and so much harder for a child. This is beautifully written. I will have to make sure to read all 52 stories. Love this.

Weeping.

I love the idea of your stories. Great personal challenge.

Beautiful page in every way.

What a beautiful story of love and friendship. I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet Mike.

Adryane, you are a very talented digi artist and a gifted writer.....your 52 stories is going to be an amazing 'printed' gift to yourself and to your family.

Gulp... This is going to be a fantastic adventure Adryane... Mike and Ben's relationship and Ben's compassion shine through your words and creativity. Total sweetness. You're doing a wonderful job with this young man... And... Your page is lovely...

What a beautiful and heartbreaking story. I had the exact same thing happen with my cat. He was with us 18 years and and the day my husband had to take him to be put down because of the severe pain he was in was the hardest day of my life. I can see that look in your son's face and know he must have loved your cat a lot.

Oh Adryane, this is an amazing page, the photos speak for themselves, you 'can' see the grief on Ben's face, and your journaling is beautiful..

I wish our fur family members could stay around longer than they do. Your son shows great empathy and compassion.
