Here's my entry for the Oct 2009 Creative Challenge, about an early memory. Really enjoyed this challenge - right up my street. Sadly, I didn't have an appropriate photo, given that my memory is from the Dark Ages - hehe.
Journaling reads:
There was a dog. And a hole. A big yellow dog that was as big as me. When I stood in the hole, the dog towered over me. It was hot. There was a dog.
When I was about 18 months old we holidayed in Cyprus with our neighbours, the Haswells, who were posted out there at the time. Ive seen the pictures James took loads of Kate & I running round the beach dressed only in bikini bottoms. And Daddy took lots, whose increasingly sepia tones exaggerate the old fashioned look of the 1960s fashions. I, of course, remember none of this I think I do, but its a planted memory from looking at the photos (and from the horror of James turning up at our house whenever a new boyfriend came over, brandishing photos of me naked, aged 18 mths, to shock/scare off the boyfriend!). I do, however, remember a big yellow dog and a hole. After chatting with my mother, it turns out that there was a yellow Labrador and the hole was a sand pit sunken into the ground. So my memory did serve me correctly. Sadly, I remember nothing else from this idyllic time in my childhood such is life! May 1969
