"Alaskan Brown Bears (also called Kodiak bears) tend to be the largest of their species. They can grow up to 9.8 feet tall and the males weigh between 300 and 1500 pounds. Spanky and Sheena came to San Diego in 1986 when they were 8 months old. The orphaned cubs were found digging in a garbage dump in Coffee Point, Alaska. Sadly, Sheena died in the summer of 2005. Spanky (who weighs about 800 pounds) still attracts tons of visitors though!"
