For Challenge #5: Creative Photoshop Editing, we were asked to take an image, extract the main subject, and add multiple layers to the photo to give it depth. So, I started with the photo of this gorgeous weimaraner dog, named Hannah, by extracting the dog, and then set the extraction aside.
The background and elements are from the Fallen Echoes Bundle by Joyce Paul Designs. I took one of the artsy papers and turned it upside down. Then I blended in some music-related bits from another artsy paper, particularly the treble and bass clefs on the musical staves to the left of the image.
To give the photo depth, first I added Mask 5 from Beautifully Masks by natali designs. Then I added natali designs' Mask 7a and set the opacity to 40% to make it a gray color like Hannah's fur. Next I added a torn frame by et Designs, although I rotated it and created a new shadow for it.
Then I took a beautifully curled ribbon from the Fallen Echoes Bundle and masked it, to give it the illusion of curling around the torn frame. I placed the extracted dog in front, giving Hannah a drop shadow to increase the depth. Where the ribbon meets the dog's head at the top had very similar values, so I created a mask and then added a gradient to the ribbon, to create greater separation here. I intentionally wanted the Hannah's neck to extend past the bottom of the masked photo, to enhance the depth.
I really liked the word strip, "Even silence has a song," for this layout. I added it and set the blend mode to "Darken" so that the paper strip would disappear but the words would remain. I selected the porcelain bird from the Fallen Echoes Bundle and perched it on Hannah's nose, so the two of them could dance in the silence together. Finally, I added two doodled flowers from the Fallen Echoes Bundle and used a color overlay to change their color to one selected from the ribbon shadows.
