Kattenkruidbij

The catnip bee (also called nepeta bee) is a fairly hairy bee that mainly occurs throughout Belgium. She can be recognized by a light brown thorax and a white head shield with a black forehead. The catnip bee is usually observed in gardens where many lip flowers are planted, such as the catnip that gives it its name. It is also regularly observed next to railways and sand quarries.
Its occurrence is rather rare and it is therefore on the red list of endangered bees. This is also because it is picky about nesting sites, which mainly consist of steep erosion walls, clay walls, in warm places.
