May ATC Members Challenge

Created for Anne-Marie's May ATC Member's Challenge. I adored my grandmother, Lola. She was a real pioneer. She was one of the original members of Meals on Wheels in our town. I remember, as a child, going with her to take meals to "shut ins". She also worked tirelessly for The American Cancer Society and was instrumental in the relocation of hundreds of refugees from Europe who were sent to the Midwest to be set up in housing. I also remember going with her and seeing the children clinging to their mothers. I wish I could tell her now how she helped to mold my life. I used Crafty Button Designs Army of One for my ATC.

Yes, that's a copy of an old photo of Lola (that I extracted). She thought she was about 15 when this photograph was taken. She had a very bad home life, so I always thought it was remarkable that she had this beautiful photograph. She was very special. Thanks for your challenge and the opportunity to show my love for her.

What wonderful life experiences your Grandma gave to you and I really enjoyed reading about it and her, what a woman she was! So cool that you were able to use her photo on your card, she's beautiful and shines from within. I like the colors and pieces you used and your quote sounds perfect for your Grandmother.

Thank you so much for your wonderful and sincere comments. Gram (Lola) was quite a woman and a great role model for me. She did so much good for so many people and was also a competitive bridge player, which I didn't understand the significance of at the time. She was definitely a survivor and was so far ahead of her time. :heartpumpred::heartpumpred: Here's a link to a layout I created about her some time ago: https://oscraps.com/community/media/lola.361407/

When I got to investigating the "displaced persons" I discovered that she was actually working with the displaced Jewish people (among others) left over from WWII. After the war ended, it was many years before they could get "The Last Million" rehomed. Europe was full and thousands of them ended up in the Midwest, where we lived. I was shocked that she was instrumental in that. There's actually a book about The Last Million, which i have since read. Some of the pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place for me.
