Inspired by something I saw on Pinterest. I'm always interested in the idea of building on the photos I have and creating new stories. The original photo of Bertha Allen is a black and white head shot. Her face was painted and shadowed on different layers. I created a pattern for the dress so that I could clip the fabric and lace pieces to something. Really helps in "seeing" the shape take form. The rose was added toward the end when I decided that I didn't like that the sleeves of the dress had no arms/hands. I'm also going to experiment with new canvas sizes. After a decade of 12 x 12 as an auto start, it might be interesting to try something new. This is 6 x 12.
Wowza! This is beyond fabulous. Bertha Allen— love that name—is so styling. I am definitely gonna lift this. A new canvas size too! You’re firing on all those creative engines, A!
Fabulous art. Creative and inspiring! Love Bertha Allen. (Had an aunt named Bertha, only knew her as an old woman). Love the frame behind this stylish woman.
