Knit Gnomes.jpg

This page documents a bunch of gnomes I knit to sell at my daughter's store in Woodstock, NY. The first 14 flew out the door, so I did six more. I don't usually knit toys, but I wanted to up my game in knitting small circumferences and there is nothing like the challenge of small pointy hats on tiny needles to increase one's comfort level, though sometimes the experience was like trying to wrestle with a porcupine.

For this design I used most of the supplies in the Verdure collection release (on sale now!), starting with the template, which I especially valued for the lace and gold layers that helped me disguise some of the awkward edges where my photo met (or didn't meet) the Fotoblendz—and there were quite a few sharp edges. To extend other edges, I also clipped duplicates of my photos to a few of the template stains. Then I added a frame from the Artplay Palette to contain another photo and added word art, also from the Verdure collection. The background is Verdure Solid paper 5 over Artsy Paper 4 over 3 over 1, on multiply and overlay blend modes. I embellished with Multimedia Branches 16, Artsy Transfers, Threadz, and elements from the Artplay Palette, and finished off with a burgundy gradient at reduced opacity on color blend mode.

Each gnome is so wonderful. I love how great they look in the tall narrow frames, the yarns, and your lighting throughout is beautiful.

WOW! Four papers! Excellent blending. Love the placement of the zigzag threadz.

Love the cheery warm look of your gnomes. Their beards are a hoot. and the perfect cluster to go with them.

Wow! You know I love this. Not only is it perfectly scrapped - those gnomes are to die for!!!! Do you wing them? They all look a bit different, so I'm thinking no pattern. I love gnomes. Can't believe I never knitted or crocheted one!

Thanks! It takes a bit to get used to the small double-pointed needles, but the project was definitely a skill-builder for me. They all are a little different, you're right, and I use a variety of patterns from imaginedlandscapes.com. Then I usually do a mashup, taking a bit from one patterns and a bit from another, as the gnome dictates. You definitely should try making one (but warning: they CAN be addictive!)

Thank you so much for the link, will check it out. I'm quite used to dpns, I have knitted my fair share of socks. LOL Now I have to make me a gnome. Or 12....

There's a whole gnome culture on Ravelry and Instagram, with KALs and mystery gnomes and the like, and if you check out imaginedlandscapes you will inevitably link to those, too. You Tube is full of her videos and there's lots of nifty tips and tricks. It's fun! (Socks scare the heck out of me.)

Okay, these guys are the most handsome gnomes I ever saw! I can see why they flwer off the shelves. You have so many talents! Wonderful page and warm colors!
