Double page spread - continuing west through Texas.
"The Red River is indeed well named for it is like brick dust. The Brazos R. is also very red. In Fort Worth there were roses in bloom on the south side of the houses. We went by large patches of prickly pear cactus. Some of the leaves were as big as a saucer."
We are camped at a real good place...$1.75 for 2 rooms...had pavement all the way except for a few places of a rod or so."

"A car went off an embankment and was axel deep in red mud...Cotton didn't amount to much and some of it hadn't been picked, so we plucked a few bunches as a souvenir...The hitch hikers were very plentiful. One fellow in a uniform of some kind arrived in town twice before we did and when we came thru he was waiting for another ride. He waved and smiled the last time we saw him..."

Rose seems quite the character :)
Love how she poses in the photos. No severe, no smile photos for her!
The colors here are beautiful.
