1930 road trip continues, pages 6 and 7.

“…had to change a tire at Glendive, 10 miles out had to fix another (tire)… Cabins nice have real rain water to wash in…had two tires to fix, then had another flat…The front axle is bent on the car and causes it to sway a lot…”
Based on Aunt Ellen's entries of miles and hours driving they are averaging between 30-40 mph.
Duplicated one of the Badlands photos and recolored. Clipped transfers to add texture.

This looks like a ton of work but a fabulously interesting project. Love "real rain water to wash in." Not sure we'd love that nowadays. ;)
 
"real rain water to wash in" ... gives the idea of a luxury/convenience some perspective. That's a lot of flat tires to change. This was not an easy trip but I don't think much was easy then. Maybe that's what made people more resilient than they are today. Love the blended color and texture on the right.
