Dad was granted 6 days leave on his return from Japan. He spent that time with Mom. They took a road trip down the California coast to Monterey with Moms parents and her brother Herb. One of moms favorite photographs of her and Dad is this one taken on that road trip. If you look closely Mom is wearing the strand of pearls that Dad brought back from Japan.
In preparation for getting married Dad was granted permission to ration separately & reside off base on the 17 June 1955. He secured housing in Suisun City about one mile from Travis AFB. The neighborhood was called Pierce Gardens. The houses were condemned WWII military houses. During the war, the housing was brought in by train on flatbed cars. The houses were not on traditional foundations as they were not intended to be permanent.
