Journaling reads
George looks very handsome in his 2nd
county of London Yeomanry uniform. He
served for three years with the British Army
Territorial Force which was intended to be
a home defense force for service during
wartime. The adopted forces nickname
Rough Riders was taken from the US
Calvary Regiment that fought in the
American-Spanish war.
This photo was taken in London in Georges
parents back yard. This lovely seat appears
in a number of photos. I was told that it was
destroyed in the second world war, I believe
the photo was taken before 1912 as he filed
for a homestead in Saskatchewan, Canada
in that year.
As I examined the photo, I noticed his father,
James, in the background. I am certain
at the time the term photo bomb was not
coined yet. This is a special photo
as it is the only photo I have of them together
George was Olives favorite brother.
It was an exciting treasure hunt to put together
this information from his Canadian Overs Seas
Expeditionary papers and internet
information to determine the uniform.
