Tornado

A photo I took in the Texas Panhandle (1977). We were on our way to California and had to stop at a gas station due to blinding hail. A few families joined us in the flat-roofed metal building. When we heard a roar and saw the tornado headed straight for us. A fellow traveler strongly suggested we abandon the building and drive as fast as possible out of the area. The funnel was coming at a right angle to the highway. A caravan of about five cars drove 90 miles an hour out of the path of the tornado. Weather experts dont recommend driving during imminent tornadic activity, but in this case the quick decision saved our lives. We learned many buildings had been leveled including the one we left behind. I snapped this photo before hopping into our exiting car.
