Bitten

This is a late "Shoot Where You Stand" page - just a little late to the party. ;)

My poor dog Cricket was bitten by a rattlesnake this weekend - poor little thing! In the photo her legs have been shaved for the IV, and they are wrapped with vet-wrap. She is going to be fine, but she is not a happy camper right now, although the fact that she has been getting the rattlesnake vaccine each year helped her quite a bit.

Journaling reads: I always worry about rattlesnakes up at the stable, and knew the season had started, but I hoped we would never come across one. Cricket has had the rattlesnake vaccine, but I always miss the training. The ironic thing is that we finally scheduled it for this month, but it was a few weeks before the class. I didnt see her get bit, nor did she let on what had happened, but that night, she didnt eat, and just didnt seem right. Not even did she run to the door, barking, when she heard a doorbell on TV, but just make a small woof, while lying on her side, not even raising her head. Her long fur covered the swelling in her jowl and neck on her right side. Concerned, I took her down to the Animal Hospital, and after some blood tests, they determined there was a 90% chance it was a snake bite, but that the vaccine seemed to make the case less severe. Thankfully, she didnt need the $780 antivenin, but needed IV fluids and pain meds and a night of monitoring in the hospital. The next day, the vet said he was still concerned because although her tests showed improvement, she still would not eat - so I jumped in my car knowing that she typically doesnt eat if we are not around. Sure enough, she devoured the food, which put a smile on all our faces. Although still on the mend, and quite weak, she is so happy to be home.\

The Process: Annas templates always make it easy, but I almost always change things around. I attached the smaller photo to the foto mask on the template, and recolored some of the layers under the foto mask. I attached the photo of the animal hospital to the faded foto mask, and changed the mask to blend mode luminosity. The background paper I used from ArtPlay Palette Lush had the slight texture on it, but I bumped it up using curves, also darkening the paper a bit. I added the snake and a variety of brush work mainly around the photo. I added the edge overlay, and changed it to white. I used addition transfers from the ArtPlay Palette Lush, and changing their blend mode to luminosity, gave it the monotone coloring of the rest of the page. I added the Acrylic Alpha using the PSD files, to allow me to modigy the color a bit. I created two text paths, to allow the text to follow the lines of the snake.
