Journaling reads:
Ginny & Paddy are both so loyal & utterly devoted to their one favourite bedfellows. We didnt plan this and with the benefit of hindsight (such a wonderfully irritating thing), we would actively avoid this situation if at all possible. But life is simply not worth living at bedtime if Pooh Bear or Baa can not be found, even at the advanced ages of 7 & 8 yrs old.
I bought Pooh Bear on a whim whilst heavily pregnant with Ginny as he was going cheap in Mothercare. Presumably I put him in Ginnys cot, repeatedly, otherwise how else would she have come to be so dependent on him. We cant remember when she first started carrying him around by certainly by the time she was about 12 mths old, Pooh Bear appears in every photo.
Dominic bought Baa for Paddy when he was only a few months old, and at the time, the label was more interesting to him than the toy. But Baa was soon established as the creature of comfort so we quickly bought a spare this has saved our bacon on many an occasion.
Weve had some heart stopping moments over these stuffed animals. When we were in Wales and Paddy was about 2 yrs old, he hid Baa and after 5 of us had searched franticly all over the farm for over an hour each, Paddy whipped him out from inside a box. Pooh Bear went missing soon after the puppies arrived and we feared hed been ripped to shreds or buried in a hole in the garden, and come daylight I was to be seen kitchen spoon in hand, digging all over looking for him. (He was later found in the freezer but thats another story.) And en route to Australia we realised that theyd been left at home. Temporary replacements were procured, but Dominic & I learnt a very useful lesson Ginny & Paddy didnt freak out as much as we expected, sleep was possible and the world did not end.
Both bedfellows are looking pretty threadbare now; Pooh Bear has had his ears sewn up so many times that they barely (oh, terrible pun!) exist any more. And Baa had had to have a coat made to stop his insides escaping. Of course, both Baas had to get coats, so Paddy couldnt tell the difference. He has, naturally, worked it out now, and regularly takes the spare Baa out if he cant be bothered to look for the one in use.
As a woman who still slept with her childhood teddy until he was lost at the age of 39, I totally understand my kids devotion. When Jack was lost I felt a huge sense of grief ridiculous, I know, but I understand where the kids are coming from when they get hysterical about losing their toy. We are just so relieved that Woody has shown no interest in any one bedfellow and has saved us all the nightmares that have come with Pooh Bear & Baa.
