Austin's New Downtown Library

Austin has this new AMAZING library downtown. It took 7 years to build and cost 125 Million. Crazy, huh? But did I mention that it's amazing? Here are a few details.

This new public library is something else. Six floors, 200, 000 sq ft of books with collections displayed to encourage discovery. Situated on the banks of the Colorado River or as Austinites say Lady Bird Lake, it features two reading porches, an indoor reading room and a landmark public gathering atrium space adjacent to Shoal Creek. And theres a Book Caf with outdoor dining, a Recycled Reads Gift Shop, along with a gallery space featuring local and national artists.

Also, one of my all-time favorite collage artist, Lance Letscher, has the first exhibit. The first exhibit, Lance Letscher: Books, features over 35 art pieces created by this Austinite and internationally renowned collage artist. Photos from the Austin Public Library

Process:
Using templates are an easy way to showcase multiple photos. I opened up the template 5 from Project Template Album No. 3B, placed my photos and clipped my photos to the masks. I used solidPaper No. 2 from ArtPlay Palette as my background and duplicated it, making it darker by using blend mode of color burn at 37%. Because I had lots of photos of the library, I duplicate one photo and moved it to the right side. I only added one small embellishments, because I liked the nice, clean look. Added my title and subhead and was done. Easy peasy.

Thanks for looking.
Beautiful ... love the big blending ...
it will be a pleasure to spend an afternoon (day ... ) in the new library ...

What a fabulous place, died and gone to heaven! Books and art in the same place! I am totally impressed, especially in this day and age of digital books, which I've never really gotten into. I could spend days in this gorgeous place. Love your photos and page.

What a wonderful way to spend a day! I used to get lost in a library so much smaller than this when I was a kid and still dream sometimes of getting locked inside. I'm gonna like this new album, too.

Very beautiful report of this beautiful library, presented well in your page!

what a beautiful building, oh how I would love to see it! Thanks for the reference to the artist, not one I am familiar with, but I do love collage, and color :)

Holy Moly... what a place. Now we know where we will be able to find you. If I were near by, it would certainly be a favorite spot!!Enjoy!!

This is quite the extravaganza! Books deserve nothing less. Our town just passed a bond to enlarge our local library...nothing like yours, but baby steps in the right direction. The reading porches have captured my imagination....
